OH the stories that could be told! This brooch opens up and has a locket with the original photos still in their frames! The photos are most likely from the early 1900s. The brooch is yellow gold plated with a matte and polished gold finish. The faceted purple gem has all it's prongs holding it securely. A five petal flower adorns the top of the gem and has one of two leaves coming off the stem. That is the only thing wrong with this brooch, but it's hard to distinguish.
